GameStop stock (GME) has a tokenised version, GMEx, a blockchain based asset that represents GameStop shares. Each GMEx token is backed 1:1 by real GameStop shares held in regulated custody. GameStop is a video game and electronics retailer based in Grapevine, Texas, selling new and pre owned games, consoles and collectibles through stores and online. The company became widely known in January 2021 when its share price surged during a trading frenzy driven by retail investors. Holding GMEx gives you indirect exposure to GameStop shares, but it is not the same as owning the underlying shares and does not come with shareholder rights.
