Axie Infinity (AXS) is the governance token of Axie Infinity, a blockchain game where players collect, breed and battle creatures called Axies. Developed by Vietnamese studio Sky Mavis and released in 2018, the game popularised the play to earn model, in which players can earn tokens and NFTs while they play. It runs on Ronin, a blockchain created by Sky Mavis for gaming. AXS holders can stake the token to earn rewards and vote on how the game's community treasury is spent. Axie Infinity became one of the most played blockchain games, particularly in the Philippines, Vietnam and other emerging markets.
